About Paul Rogers – Professional Pianist & Piano Tutor in Hull

Paul’s passion for music began at the age of seven when he started piano lessons. He went on to study music at O-Level and A-Level before earning a place at Leeds College of Music, where he specialised in Classical, Jazz, and Light Music. After three years of dedicated study, he graduated with a First-Class Diploma, setting the foundation for a diverse and successful career in music.

A Career Spanning Stage, Studio & International Tours

Paul’s first major role after college was as the resident pianist and keyboard player at London’s famous Stork Club. This prestigious position led to exciting opportunities, including a US tour with Simon Townshend (brother of Pete Townshend from The Who), where he played alongside Duran Duran and The Pretenders. The tour culminated in the recording of Moving Target at New York’s legendary Hit Factory Studios.

Back in the UK, Paul’s career continued to flourish. He toured with The Hot Ice Show in Blackpool, played summer seasons at Butlin’s, and performed across social clubs in the North of England. He later joined The Casablanca Boys, a renowned function band, entertaining audiences at weddings, corporate events, and private parties, further honing his skills as a versatile and in-demand performer.

Throughout his career, Paul has collaborated with some of the UK’s best-known entertainers, including Les Dennis, Jim Bowen, Lionel Bart, Duncan Norvelle, and Joe Longthorne. His work with Simon Townshend also led to sessions with Mick Ronson, legendary guitarist for David Bowie.

Musical Direction & Teaching

Beyond performing, Paul has dedicated much of his career to music education. He worked as a learning adviser and pianist in the Musical Theatre department at Hull College and served as Musical Director for the Northern Theatre Company, leading over 30 full-scale musicals.

His talent has also taken him around the world, performing aboard Fred Olsen’s Boudicca and Balmoral, P&O’s Oriana and Ventura, and Saga’s Quest For Adventure, Pearl 2, and Sapphire, entertaining audiences while travelling to some of the world’s most breathtaking locations.

Paul was also the Musical Director and resident keyboard player at Warners Leisure Hotel, Cricket St. Thomas in Somerset, delivering high-quality performances to holidaymakers.

A Passion for Teaching & Inspiring the Next Generation

In recent years, Paul has achieved prestigious FLCM in Jazz Piano, DipLCM in Electronic Keyboard Performance, and an ARSM in Classical Piano. He has also returned to Hull College and now teaches piano at Bacon Garth Primary School in Cottingham and Welton Primary School in Brough.
